Momchil Karpuzanov

Academic director of the master's programs of the American University in Bulgaria

Momchil Karpuzanov is a professor of economics and finance at the Department of Business at the American University in Bulgaria. He holds a PhD in Economics from Aix-Marseille University in France. His main research areas revolve around the political economy of money (monetary policy and the economics of money) with a special interest in competitive money supply and the currency board regime.

In addition, he works on topics related to the history of economic thought and corruption.

Before joining AUBG in 2017, he also performed economic analysis for UNOPS, the Ministry of Economy and the Bulgarian Investment Agency (BAI).

His academic career took him to teach in various places, including universities in France, Cyprus and Bulgaria.

He is a member of the Philosophy-Economics network and a former research fellow of the Institute for Economic and Fiscal Research IREF-Europe.

Since 2020, he is the academic director of the master’s programs of the American University in Bulgaria.
