Charlina Vitcheva
Director of DG "Maritime Affairs and Fisheries" at the European Commission
Since 2020, Charlina Vitcheva is the Director of the Directorate General “Maritime Affairs and Fisheries” at the European Commission. Prior to that, Vicheva was the Deputy Director General of the Joint Research Center and before that she was the head of the General Directorate of Regional and Settlement Policy (REGIO) of the EC.
Before joining the Commission in 2009, Vicheva was Minister Plenipotentiary at the Permanent Representation of Bulgaria to the European Union.
During her 15 years in the Bulgarian public administration, including in the Permanent Representation in Brussels, dealing mainly with the issues of agriculture and fisheries, Vicheva actively participated in the negotiations for Bulgaria’s accession to the EU and between 2000 and 2004 she led the negotiation teams in the field of agriculture and rural development, food safety and fisheries.
