Nikolay Angelov Rashkov is a Bulgarian economist and entrepreneur, born on 21 February 1966 in the town of Stanke Dimitrov (now Dupnitsa). When he was just six months old, his family returned to Gorna Oryahovitsa, where he has lived ever since. He holds a Master's degree in Finance and brings over 35 years of experience as an entrepreneur, having founded and led companies with an excellent commercial reputation both on the domestic market and with international partners. Prior to entering politics, he also served in the elite paratrooper units of the Bulgarian Army, where he built the character and resolve he later applied to the world of business.
Rashkov is a longstanding philanthropist who has supported community causes, organisations, churches, and talented individuals in his city with personal funds. Between 1998 and 2016, he was part of the team that financially and organisationally supported FC Lokomotiv Gorna Oryahovitsa, helping return the club to prominence on Bulgaria's football map. He was nominated by the party "Pryaka Demokratsia" (Direct Democracy) and elected Mayor of Gorna Oryahovitsa Municipality on 5 November 2023, having never previously been a member of any political party or organisation.
As mayor, Rashkov has prioritised comprehensive infrastructure renewal and has an ambitious plan for the revival of Gorna Oryahovitsa Airport, which he considers a key driver of development not just for the municipality but for the wider Central Northern Bulgaria region. He has stated that under his leadership the municipality has emerged from a state of persistent financial difficulty and now maintains strong financial indicators, enabling active work on long-standing infrastructure challenges — including road, underground, and water supply networks that have troubled residents for years.
