Alexei Taran

General Director, National Agency for Energy Regulation, Moldova

Green Transition Forum 6.0

Alexei Taran is the General Director of the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE) in Moldova. He was first confirmed as a director of ANRE's Administrative Board by Parliament, appointed for a six-year term. He had previously served as a director at ANRE since March 2022, and was later elevated to the role of General Director following the expiration of his predecessor Veaceslav Untila's mandate. His appointment as General Director was proposed by Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, who noted that Taran met all the necessary requirements for the position.

In his role, Taran has been a prominent public voice on Moldova's energy security challenges. He has emphasized that Moldova is almost entirely dependent on imported oil and gas products, making it directly exposed to international price fluctuations and global supply chain disruptions. He has also addressed the complex situation surrounding natural gas supplies to the Transnistrian region, noting that the supply mechanism there remains unstable and dependent on periodic payments. Beyond domestic concerns, Taran has actively engaged with European partners, including meetings with the Energy Community Secretariat, to advance Moldova's alignment with EU energy legislation and support the country's broader European integration agenda.
