Non-governmental organizations have rallied around the proposition that citizens should be involved in improving green transition measures

The green transition is necessary because of climate change, but it must happen in a way that is sustainable for all countries. It is important to take into account greater participation of citizens and civil organizations in this process, so that the current measures and plans for it can be improved. This became clear from the words of Radostina Slavkova, “Energy and Climate” coordinator at the “For the Earth” Association at the “Green Week 2023” forum, dedicated to the green transition in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe.

The forum is organized by Dir.bg and 3E news and will last three days as a continuation of the edition “Green Transition”, which took place last year in the capital city. BTA is media partner.

Slavkova added that the association wants to see the updated plan in the field of energy and climate, which concerns mobility. According to her, it should include the implementation of a national bicycle plan. The green transition is necessary because of what is happening with the climate, but it must happen in a way that is acceptable to all countries.

Kristian Dimitrov, Greenpeace’s “Energy Communities” campaign coordinator, pointed out that the topic of the green transition is not particularly popular among people. The state has not made enough efforts to inform them, he believes. According to him, it is extremely important for our country to allow the implementation of energy sharing or so-called energy communities, which share electricity with poorer people. He pointed out that Greece and countries with far less sun produce electricity, including for heating, precisely through the application of this mechanism.
