Yavor Dimitrov

Yavor Maksimov Dimitrov is the Director of the Black Sea Basin Directorate (BSBD) and Bulgaria’s Maritime Director. The BSBD implements the Water Act, the Biological Diversity Act, the Environmental Protection Act, and the related secondary legislation. As Director of the BSBD, Eng. Dimitrov holds a wide range of responsibilities, including: Implementation of the Water Framework Directive, the Marine Strategy Framework Directive, and the Floods Directive; Development and implementation of the River Basin Management Plans (RBMPs) and the Flood Risk Management Plans (FRMPs) at the level of the Black Sea River Basin District; Development and implementation of Bulgaria’s Marine Strategy at the national level; Preparation of the Black Sea Management Plan for protected areas located within the marine spaces of the Republic of Bulgaria; Issuance and control of permits under the Water Act; Monitoring of the condition and flow capacity of riverbeds and discharge facilities into receiving waters, regulation of activities in riverbeds, water quantity and quality control, self-monitoring of water bodies, and more. Eng. Dimitrov actively participates in initiatives related to the sustainable management of water resources and adaptation to climate change. He is committed to raising public awareness on issues related to the protection of water and the marine environment.
