Gender specialist, researcher and sociologist

Tarana Jafarova is a gender specialist, researcher and sociologist with proven experience in the field of development, women and social issues, evaluation and capacity building of government and civil organizations. As a gender specialist, Ms. Jafarova provides technical support with practical tools, knowledge and recommendations on how to integrate gender perspectives and dimensions into projects, policies, government statistics and climate change adaptation and strategies for sustainability and design interventions. As a gender researcher, Ms. Jafarova conducted a gender analysis and assessment, and based on the findings, developed a Gender Action Plan (GAP) along with gender targets and indicators and strategies to address issues related to with gender, and prepared a GAP Implementation Plan in projects such as land degradation neutrality, biodiversity conservation and sustainable management of natural resources, fisheries and aquaculture, food waste and losses in the agricultural supply chain, smart village projects, implemented by the UN FAO in partnership with the relevant ministries of Azerbaijan. She is currently supporting the Asian Development Bank as a national gender expert conducting a gender assessment in Azerbaijan. In addition, as a gender expert working for UNDP, Ms. Jafarova prepares and conducts trainings for authorities on how to effectively integrate gender dimensions in sectors that are priority areas in Azerbaijan, such as energy, agriculture , waters and the coastal zone and prepares training materials for the course "Adaptation to Climate Change" in the master's program. Ms. Jafarova prepared a Practical Guide for Mainstreaming Gender in Projects, Budgets and State Statistics, which was also published online on the website of the State Committee for Women and Family Affairs of Azerbaijan. Moreover, Ms. Jafarova is an active member of the recently established South Caucasus Women's Water Diplomacy Network to improve gender equality in high-level decision-making in transboundary basin areas with a focus on women's leadership in regional dialogues around shared waters. With strong academic training from the State University of New York, USA, the Center for International Education at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and the International Adler Coaching Federation, Ms. Jafarova is an experienced researcher, gender specialist, and trainer in women's leadership. Ms. Jafarova has published her research and articles on gender issues in various international journals.
