Green Transition Forum 6.0

Tahir Kapetanovic is a highly experienced energy professional with over 35 years in the electricity sector. He is Head of System Operation and Vice President International at Austrian Power Grid (APG), the transmission system operator of Austria, and serves as Vice-Chair of the Board of ENTSO-E, the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity. His career spans electricity transmission, energy markets regulation, the banking sector, electrical equipment industries and academic research. He holds a doctorate in electrical and energy engineering and previously spent a decade as Director of Electricity at E-Control, Austria's energy regulatory authority.

Within ENTSO-E, he previously chaired the System Operations Committee, managed the development of operational network codes, and coordinated regional TSOs. He is also a member of the management boards of TSC and System Operation Region Central, and previously chaired the TSC Operational Board. He was confirmed in September 2025 for another two-year term as Vice-Chair of the ENTSO-E Board, contributing to security of supply and the energy transition at the highest European level.

At the 2026 European Grids Summit, Kapetanovic underlined that Europe's Internal Energy Market is a major achievement and a shining example of European integration, stressing that its continued success depends on the timely expansion and modernisation of grid infrastructure — from interconnectors to digital systems — to keep pace with accelerating electrification and renewable integration. He has highlighted that grids have moved from a technical issue to a strategic priority, with the key challenge now lying not in planning, but in delivery, including permitting, financing and implementation.
