Richard Smithers

Richard Smithers is the Director of the Mission Implementation Platform for Adaptation to Climate Change (MIP4Adapt) – the central support mechanism for the EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change, funded under Horizon Europe. Based at Ricardo Energy & Environment, he leads the team providing expert guidance, tools, and capacity-building to help European regions and communities enhance their climate resilience. With over 20 years of experience in ecology, sustainable development, and climate risk adaptation, Richard Smithers plays a vital role in supporting local and regional authorities in designing and implementing evidence-based climate adaptation strategies. His work directly contributes to the goals of the European Green Deal, helping vulnerable areas across the EU prepare for a changing climate.
