Prof. Dr. Eng. Gancho Dimitrov

Prof. Dr. Eng. Gancho Dimitrov is a distinguished expert in water supply and sewerage engineering with over 50 years of professional and academic experience. Since 2023, he has served as the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Bulgarian Water and Sewerage Holding EAD, playing a key role in advancing the water sector in alignment with the objectives of the European Green Deal. He graduated from the Technical School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering in Blagoevgrad in 1966 and from the Higher Institute of Civil Engineering (HICE) in 1973 with a degree in “Water Supply and Sewerage.” Since 1974, he has been working at the Department of Water Supply, Sewerage and Water Treatment at the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy (UACEG), where he has successively held the positions of assistant professor, associate professor (since 1986), and full professor (since 2005). He also served as head of the department (2008–2012) and has been director of the Center for International Research Projects since 2012. He defended his doctoral dissertation in 1979 and specialized at MISI–Moscow, TU Vienna, and leading companies in Europe and Israel. He delivers lectures on building water supply systems, operation and automation of water supply and sewerage systems. He is the author of over 80 scientific and applied publications and has worked on more than 90 projects related to pressure management, water loss reduction, and energy efficiency. Among his completed projects are water supply networks in Kardzhali, Burgas, Sofia, Dimitrovgrad, Petrich, Sandanski, Gabrovo, and others. He has contributed to methodologies and audits on water consumption for Sofia Municipality and "Sofiyska Voda" AD. He is co-author of several manuals and books in the field of water supply and sewerage. He is a member of the Bulgarian Water Association (BWA), the Bulgarian Association for Water Loss Reduction (BAWLR), the Chamber of Engineers in Investment Design (CEID), and the Governing Board of the National Scientific and Technical Union on “Water Affairs.” He is highly respected for his expertise, experience, and significant contributions to the water supply and sewerage sector in Bulgaria.
