Mario Mauro is an Italian politician and academic appointed on 12 September 2025 as European Coordinator for the TEN-T Baltic Sea–Black Sea–Aegean Sea (BBA) European Transport Corridor at DG MOVE. Born on 24 July 1961 in San Giovanni Rotondo, he holds a degree in Philosophy from the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan and is fluent in English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese, with a good knowledge of German.

 He is a former Vice-President of the European Parliament and served as Italy's Minister of Defence (2013–2014), where he focused on reforming military personnel organisation, enhancing intergovernmental cooperation in military-industrial policy, and promoting a cohesive European defence system. He also founded Meseuro in 2018 and serves on the boards of several foundations, alongside an adjunct professorship on European institutions.
