Manol Trifonov Genov is a Bulgarian politician with extensive experience in water management and environmental policy. He was appointed as Minister of Environment and Water on January 16, 2025, in the government of Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov, formed by the coalition of GERB–SDS, BSP–United Left, and “There Is Such a People” .
Born on June 14, 1960, in Asenovgrad, Genov graduated in Russian Philology from Paisii Hilendarski University of Plovdiv and holds a Master’s degree in Business Management from D. A. Tsenov Academy of Economics in Svishtov .
His professional career includes roles as controller and manager of Plovdiv Water Supply and Sewerage, deputy mayor, and municipal councilor in Asenovgrad. Since 2014, he has been elected as a Member of Parliament in eight consecutive legislatures, serving as deputy chair and chair of the Committee on Environment and Water. In the 51st National Assembly, he chaired the Temporary Committee for Investigating the Issues Related to Water Scarcity in the Country .
As minister, Genov focuses on sustainable water resource management, modernization of water infrastructure, and climate change adaptation. Under his leadership, the Ministry of Environment and Water actively works to improve air quality and protect natural resources.
