Julian Popov is a Senior Adviser at Strategic Perspectives, Brussels, a member of the European Council on Foreign Relations, and a member of the advisory councils of Energy Policy Group, Romania, and REKK, Hungary. He served as Bulgaria’s Minister of Environment and Water in 2013, 2023–2024 and 2026. He has also served as Bulgaria’s Goodwill Ambassador for energy and climate policy and as adviser on energy security to the President of Bulgaria.
He is one of the founders of New Bulgarian University and co-founder of the Tunisian School of Politics. Julian Popov has twice been ranked by EurActiv among the 40 most influential voices in European energy policy. His commentary on energy and climate policy has been widely published in leading European media.
