President, Euromines | Senior Advisor and Former CEO of LKAB

JMr. Jan Moström has been the President and Chief Executive Officer at LKAB from 2015

until end of March 2026. Since April 1, 2026, Mr. Moström has the role as senior advisor

to LKAB.

Since 2023, Jan Moström is the President of Euromines, and for several years he has

also been the Chairman of the Swedish Mining Association, Svemin. Mr. Moström is also

board member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, and board

member of Infranord, the leading railroad entrepreneur in Sweden.

After graduating as mining engineer in 1985 at the Swedish School of Mining and

Metallurgy, Mr. Moström has dedicated his professional life and career to the mining

industry, starting with a long career in Boliden AB, 1979 – 2015. Between 2005 and 2015,

Mr. Moström served as President of Business Area Mines at Boliden AB being

responsible for the operations of all of Boliden’s mines, until taking over as CEO of LKAB.

In 2023, Mr. Moström was appointed Honorary Doctor in Technology at Luleå University

of Technology in Sweden.

Euromines is the voice of the European mining industries, metal ores and industrial

minerals. Euromines represents large and small companies and subsidiaries in Europe

and in other parts of the world, with 18 direct company members, 15 national mining

federations, and 10 associated members, in total accounting for 350 000 jobs. The main

objective is to promote the responsible industry practices and reflect the adequate

consideration of mining in EU policy making.

LKAB is a Swedish mining company and Europe's largest iron ore producer, accounting

for about 80 % of the iron ore production in Europe. LKAB was founded 1890 and is

wholly owned by the Swedish state. LKAB stands for about 80 % of the iron ore

production in Europe and produces highly upgraded, climate-efficient iron ore products

suitable for high product and quality standards and together with partners, LKAB has

developed the HYBRIT technology for fossil-free steel production. LKAB is committed to

developing carbon-free processes and products by 2045, leading the transformation of

the iron and steel industry.

Within the business area of minerals and special products, LKAB is developing

processes to utilize mine waste from the iron ore production, with a potential to become

a significant producer of critical minerals for agriculture and clean technology from the

planned production of phosphorus for mineral fertilisers and rare earth elements for

green technologies. In March 2025, LKAB was granted three strategic projects under the

Critical Raw Materials Act, for extraction and processing of REEs.
