Dr. Lene Buhl-Mortensen is a Dano-Norwegian marine biologist and senior researcher at the Institute of Marine Research (IMR) in Bergen, Norway. She is a leading expert in benthic ecology, marine biodiversity, and habitat mapping, focusing on vulnerable marine ecosystems (VMEs) in Arctic and sub-Arctic waters.
Born on June 20, 1956, in Esbjerg, Denmark, Dr. Buhl-Mortensen earned her biology degree from the University of Gothenburg in 1980 and her dr.scient. (PhD) from the University of Bergen in 1994. She has led the national MAREANO program for seabed mapping and has discovered several new species in Norwegian waters.
With over 150 scientific publications and more than 6,700 citations, Dr. Buhl-Mortensen is recognized for her contributions to understanding marine ecosystems and sustainable management of marine resources.
