Costis Stambolis, the current Executive Director of IENE, holds an extensive academic background in Physics, Architecture, and Energy Studies from institutions in London, including a Graduate Diploma from the Architectural Association and a Masters in Strategy and Innovation from Oxford's Saïd Business School. He is also a licensed professional member of the Technical Chamber of Greece. His educational foundation spans both technical and business disciplines, positioning him as a well-rounded expert in the energy sector.

Throughout his career, Stambolis has built deep expertise in renewable energy, solar applications, natural gas, oil markets, and energy security, consulting for governments, multinational companies, and international organizations. He has been particularly active in promoting solar energy in developing countries and advising on energy infrastructure and policy in Greece and beyond. A prolific lecturer and conference organizer, he has also authored and edited numerous influential publications, including key reference works on Greek and Southeast European energy policy.

Beyond his consulting and research work, Stambolis has had a parallel career as a specialized technical writer, serving as Athens correspondent for the Financial Times Newsletters and the newspaper Kathimerini. He has supervised Greece's leading energy website, energia.gr, since 2001, and is a founding member and three-time Chairman of IENE. He holds memberships in several professional bodies, including the Institute of Energy (UK) and the Chartered Institute of Journalists, and since 2018 has served on the Greek government's Energy & Climate Committee.
