Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mariya Trifonova

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mariya Trifonova is a lecturer in the Department of “Economics and Management by Industry” at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”. She serves as the director of the master’s program “Energy Markets and Services” and is the co-founder and deputy director of Net-Zero Lab – a research and applied science laboratory focused on sustainable energy transition.
Her research interests include renewable energy sources, market integration of RES, European energy and climate policies, energy systems modeling, and institutional economics. She participates in numerous national and international projects funded by programs such as Horizon Europe, LIFE, and others. Examples of such projects include TWIN4ECO, JustWind4All, and BLUECEE.
Dr. Trifonova is a member of the European Energy Research Alliance (EERA), the World Energy Council – Bulgaria, the European Technology and Innovation Platform on Wind Energy (ETIPWind), and the Sustainability Transitions Research Network (STRN).
She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Sofia University and is a certified economist from the University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany.
