Antonio García del Riego is a senior financial executive with an international career developed within two of Spain’s leading financial institutions – BBVA and Banco Santander. His professional journey has taken him across eight major global financial centres, including Madrid, Paris, London, New York, Hong Kong, the Bahamas, Geneva, and Brussels.
Throughout his career, he has led corporate banking initiatives, business development strategies, and complex business restructuring projects. In his final role at Santander, prior to his retirement in September 2020, he was responsible for the bank’s relationships with European institutions, with a particular focus on financial regulation and policy matters affecting the banking sector.
He currently serves as a member of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), contributing to the work of the Internal Market (INT) and Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECO) sections.
Antonio García del Riego holds a degree in Economics and Business Administration from the University of Valladolid, an MBA from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and is a Fulbright Program scholar.
