Anthony (Tony) Agotha is the Ambassador at large/EU Special Envoy for Climate and Environment at the European External Action Service (EEAS, MDGLOBAL). Previously, he worked in the cabinets of First/Executive Vice President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans as communication adviser and senior diplomatic adviser respectively.
As a career diplomat and EU affairs expert who has worked in the Netherlands Diplomatic Service since 1996, he has held positions in The Hague, Brussels, and Slovenia, and later served in senior EU-focused roles within both the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the European Commission. His career includes work on EU enlargement, serving as spokesperson for the Netherlands’ Permanent Representation to the EU during the euro crisis, and helping manage preparations for the Dutch EU Presidency.
