Alexandru Petrescu has served as President of the Romanian Financial Supervisory Authority (ASF) since December 2023, following his appointment by the Romanian Parliament. In this role, he represents ASF in the Boards of Supervisors of the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) and the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA).

Prior to this appointment, he held several ministerial positions in the Romanian Government, including Minister of Economy, Minister for Business Environment, Commerce and Entrepreneurship, and Minister of Communications and Information Society. During Romania’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union, he coordinated the European Digital Single Market agenda and chaired the Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council (TTE).

Alexandru Petrescu holds a degree in Business Administration from the University of South Wales, United Kingdom, and has extensive international experience in the financial services sector across Romania, Denmark, and the United Kingdom. His professional background includes investment banking, international payment systems, innovative financial products, cybersecurity, and IT&C infrastructure development.

His work focuses on financial market development, SME access to finance, economic governance, and the continuous improvement of financial and regulatory frameworks at both national and European level.
