Iskra Dimitrova Mihailova-Koparova is a Bulgarian politician from the DPS, Minister of Environment and Water (2013 – 2014). She was born on September 7, 1957 in the city of Sofia. From 1975 to 1977, she completed semi-higher library education at the State Library Institute. From 1977 to 1980, she studied for a master’s degree in library and information technologies and services at the Leningrad State Institute of Culture, although at that time there was no master’s degree as a degree in the USSR and in Bulgaria. In the period 1992-1996, she was a research associate, 2nd degree. She was the secretary of the scientific section at the National Library. In 1995-1996 he specialized at the German Library Institute and at the US State Department. After that, she was the chief expert in the Ministry of Culture. In the period 1998-2001, she was the chief expert at the National Agency “Socrates”. Between 2001 and 2005 she was an advisor to the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works. From 2005 to 2009, she was Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Public Works. People’s representative in the XLI and XLII NA. Since May 29, 2013, she has been the Minister of Environment and Water. In the elections for the European Parliament in 2014, she was fifth in the list of “DPS” and became an MEP.
