Grozdan Karadjov

Grozdan Karadjov was born on 14 December 1966 in the city of Stara Zagora. In 1985 he graduated the First English Language School in Sofia, and then the Law Faculty of Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski.

Karadjov was an active participant in the anti-totalitarian protests launched by Bulgarian university students in the 1990’s. He was Chairman of the Independent Student Society at the Law Faculty of Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski, and Co-Chair of the Federation of Independent Student Societies. Co-founder and National Coordinator of the Bulgarian Association for Fair Elections.

Between 1990 and 1995 Grozdan Karadjov worked for the Open Society Foundation — Sofia where consecutively undertook the roles of Program Coordinator, Secretary General and Program Director.
In the period 1996 – 2011 Karadjov held various senior positions in the postal and telecom sector, including Secretary General of the Committee for Postal Services and Telecommunications, Secretary General of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bulgarian Telecommunication Company.

In 1998—2003 he was a member of the Supervisory Board of Bulgarian Post Bank and a member of the Board of Directors of RILA SOLUTIONS.

In 1998 he completed a course in Telecommunication Management in Tokyo, Japan.
Between 2001 and 2004 Grozdan Karadjov was Executive Director of Democracy Foundation.
From 2005 to 2007 Karadjov led the construction of a ceramic tiles plant in Bulgaria, which is part of the Spanish-based Keros Cerámic.

In the following years he was part of many successful business projects in the construction sector as well as in the area of installation and maintenance of the telecommunication facilities.

Grozdan Karadjov is a member of the Managing Board of the Center for Economic Development as well as a founder of Maria’s World Foundation and a renowned philanthropist.

In 2014 Karadjov was elected to the National Assembly (the Bulgarian Parliament) on the ballot of the Reformist Bloc in a key constituency — the 24th Multi-Mandate Election District in Sofia. From 27 November 2014 until 9 December 2015 he chaired the Standing Parliamentary Committee for Transport, Information Technology and Communications. In a sharp response to the disruption by political party GERB of the judicial reform, he resigned from the chairman’s post.

Grozdan Karadjov is married and has four children. He is engaged in many charitable activities ranging from support to people with intellectual difficulties, assistance to refugees and rescuing of abandoned and homeless animals.

He is fluent in English and Russian.

On 13 December 2021, by vote of the 47th National Assembly Grozdan Karadjov became Vice Premier in charge of regional development and public works and Minister of Regional Development and Public Works.
