Sylvia Ilieva is a professor at the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics and Director of GATE Institute at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” since its establishment in 2019. She is among the Top 100 most influential IT personalities in Bulgaria for 2024, according to the annual Career Show index. At the BAIT' 2023 Annual Awards, she was awarded the Special Contribution to Information and Communication Technology Award for establishing GATE as the first Centre of Excellence in Eastern Europe in the field of Big Data and AI. Prof. Silvia Ilieva is also an IDSA Ambassador in recognition of her significant contributions to the development of IDS-based data spaces. Since 1989, he has been working at the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, and since 2005 he has been an associate professor there. Since 2002, he has been an associate professor at the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics of the Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski", and since 2012 he is a professor. She was the head of the "Software Technologies" department and a team leader of BSc and MSc Software Engineering programmes creation in compliance with ACM/IEEE recommendations. She was a supervisor of more than 200 MSc theses. Currently prof. Sylvia Ilieva is the head of the first Master's program in BulgariaThe Master's program "Big Data Technologies" - a joint initiative of GATE Institute and the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski". She has a good record of successful participation in over 30 European research and education projects. She is the author of over 100 scientific publications. Her research interests are in the areas of software platforms, software development processes, data management, and software engineering for artificial intelligence.
