Gijs Schilthuis

Gijs Schilthuis is a Dutch expert with over 19 years of experience in the European Commission, including 16 years in DG AGRI. In October 2024, he was appointed Director for Sustainability (AGRI.B) in DG AGRI, responsible for strategic initiatives under the European Green Deal and the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) reform. Schilthuis began his career in the European Commission in 2005 at DG SANTE and has been with DG AGRI since 2008, initially serving as Head of the Policy Perspectives Unit . He holds a Master's degree in Agricultural Economics from Wageningen University (2000). He is an active participant in the strategic dialogue on the future of EU agriculture, emphasizing the need for sustainable and innovative approaches to address climate change and ensure food security.
