Anna Akhalkatsi serves as the World Bank Country Director for the European Union, based in Brussels. In this capacity, she leads the Bank's dialogue with EU member states and institutions, focusing on strategic cooperation in areas such as sustainable development, digital transformation, and social inclusion.
Prior to her current role, Akhalkatsi was the World Bank Country Manager for Romania and Hungary, as well as for Moldova. She began her career at the World Bank in 1999 as an economist in Tbilisi, Georgia, and has since held various leadership positions within the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the World Bank, including assignments in Latin America and the Caribbean.
With extensive international experience and private sector expertise, Akhalkatsi is a recognized leader in developing policies and programs aimed at economic development and institutional strengthening in EU countries.
